href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/180-2024-03-01-Opinion-and-order.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tossed out<\/a>\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/cases\/michigan-voter-purge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0from a right-wing \u201celection integrity group,\u201d the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), seeking to gain access to Michigan\u2019s voter roll maintenance records for the purposes of purging allegedly ineligible voters from the state\u2019s list of registrants.\u00a0<\/p><p>Back in November 2021, PILF\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Doc-1-PILF-v.-Benson-Complaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a>\u00a0a complaint against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) alleging that the state does not conduct adequate maintenance of its voter rolls in contravention of the federal National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).\u00a0<\/p><p>The organization asserted that in failing to properly maintain the state\u2019s voter lists, Benson impermissibly allowed tens of thousands of deceased voters to remain registered to vote. The group also argued that Benson\u2019s rejection of its request to inspect voter list maintenance records and data constituted an additional NVRA violation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>In today\u2019s order, Biden-appointed Judge Jane Beckering wrote that \u201c[a]fter conducting more than nine months of discovery into the many facets of Michigan\u2019s program for the removal of deceased registrants, PILF has identified no genuine issue for trial regarding its claim that the program is not reasonable.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cThe record demonstrates that deceased voters are removed from Michigan\u2019s voter rolls on a regular and ongoing basis,\u201d the order continues. Between 2019 to March 2023, Michigan\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/sos\/~\/link.aspx?_id=0CA77C36E2D44E0DBCAB875DE164507F&amp;_z=z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceled<\/a>\u00a0between 400,000 and 450,000 registrations because voters were deceased.<\/p><p>The court also held that because Benson indisputably provided PILF with all the list maintenance data it requested, the organization\u2019s claim regarding Benson\u2019s failure to produce certain records is moot.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Similar \u201celection integrity\u201d lawsuits from PILF seeking voter records remain ongoing in other locations including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/cases\/colorado-voter-purge-pilf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colorado<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/cases\/washington-d-c-voter-purge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Washington D.C<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><p><blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"QcgIxjcjM9\"><a
