The state\u2019s 88 county boards of elections are tasked with reviewing and reporting&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/signalcleveland.org\/deadline-to-register-to-vote-is-oct-7-november-general-election-2024-cuyahoga-county-ohio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">records of voters<\/a>&nbsp;who have not voted for the last four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, nearly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyc.com\/article\/news\/local\/vote\/ohio-secretary-state-frank-larose-purges-nearly-27000-people-voting-rolls\/95-5bcc6ca7-ecb0-4c57-8833-2480affdbf6b\">27,000 Ohio voters<\/a>\u00a0were purged from the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOhio\u2019s voter list maintenance procedures have been administered by bipartisan election officials for at least the last 30 years, since the passage of the National Voter Rights Act,\u201d said Secretary LaRose in a press release. \u201cThese steps should give Ohioans confidence that election integrity is our top priority.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can you avoid being part of the voter purge? Check out Signal Akron\u2019s guide below to make sure you\u2019re ready to vote this November.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to avoid the Ohio voter purge: Check your registration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Making sure your voter registration is up to date is essential to ensuring you don\u2019t fall off the voter list. Voter registration can be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/voterlookup.ohiosos.gov\/voterlookup.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">checked online<\/a>&nbsp;\u200b\u200bor by contacting the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boe.cuyahogacounty.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cuyahoga County Board of Elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When purging voter lists, the board of elections focuses on these groups of voters:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Voters who were flagged for removal previously&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Voters who moved to a new address and did not update their registration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Voters who are newly registered but whose mailed registration acknowledgement was declared undeliverable by the Postal Service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Voters whose voter records do not match the information provided by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Updating your address is key<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One field that needs to be correct: your address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voters need to make sure their correct address is on file with the Board of Elections.&nbsp; Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Manager, Mike West said in an email. Residents can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/boe.cuyahogacounty.gov\/voters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click here<\/a>&nbsp;to use the county website:&nbsp;&nbsp;or they can call 216-443-VOTE (8683) to update their information<br><br>\u201cYou can use the address where you live as long as it is not business or a post office box,\u201d West said. Any voters without a permanent address can use a temporary one, such as a shelter. In Cleveland the shelter addresses are for the Cosgrove Center, Luthern Men\u2019s Shelter, Westside Catholic Center and Norma Herr Women\u2019s Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to register to vote and important dates<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Oct. 7 is the registration deadline for the Nov. 5 General Election. Purged voters have until Oct. 7 to re-register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voters can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/voterlookup.ohiosos.gov\/voterlookup.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">register online<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/elections\/voters\/register-to-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">by mail<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiosos.gov\/elections\/voters\/register\/#register:~:text=form%20to%20you.-,IN%20PERSON,-You%20may%20obtain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in person<\/a>,<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>including at<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cpl.org\/voting-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cleveland Public Library branches<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To register online to vote, voters need an Ohio driver\u2019s license or Ohio identification card number, a current address, and the last four digits of their social security number.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf a person moves after the October registration deadline, they can go to the county\u2019s website, use their new address to find their new voting location,\u201d West said. \u201cOnce there, they can vote by using a provisional ballot.\u00a0 The provisional process will also automatically update their address.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who is eligible to vote?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. citizens who will be at least 18 years old by Election Day (Nov. 5) are eligible to vote. You must be an Ohio resident for at least 30 days prior to the election.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, in Ohio a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/signalakron.org\/i-have-a-felony-conviction-can-i-vote-in-ohio\/?__hstc=179587451.741cb6a8f796516d0a368ccd84bcb7db.1718728416245.1718728416245.1718728416245.1&amp;__hssc=179587451.1.1718728416245&amp;__hsfp=4211952106\">felony conviction<\/a>&nbsp;does not disqualify a person from voting. Furthermore, if you are serving a sentence for a misdemeanor crime or are charged with a felony crime but have not been convicted, you are still eligible to vote.
